Top 10 most reliable car brands

1. Lexus

consumer reports most reliable
Lexus managed the rare feat of having every one of its models that was included in Consumer Reports' reliability survey rank above average.
While Lexus has lately become known for dependable but dull sedans and SUVs, Toyota (TM)'s luxury brand recently introduced the sporty two-door RC F model

2. Toyota

Reliability has always been a huge part of Toyota's brand image. Apparently, that's well founded since Toyota brands occupy the top two slots here. Scion, Toyota's entry-level brand, wasn't ranked because Consumer Reports didn't have enough survey results on its cars.

3. Audi

Improvement is possible. Audi, once described by Consumer Reports as "a sinkhole of service problems," is now the top-ranked European brand in the magazine's annual reliability rankings. Audi, which is one of several Volkswagen (VLKAF) luxury brands, has improved greatly over the last few years, according to the report.

4. Mazda

Mazda is known most of all for making fun-to-drive cars like the new CX-3 crossover SUV shown here. But it's also making fairly dependable cars, as well.

5. Subaru

Subaru has earned legions of loyal fans by selling safe and rugged (mostly) four-wheel-drive vehicles in the United States. In the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports, Subaru came it at number five, up from seven last year.

6. Kia

consumer reports most reliable
A lot of people still think Kia makes cheap, dowdy-looking cars. That's changed a lot in recent years as the Korean brand has started producing head-turning cars that could easily be mistaken for luxury models. The Cadenza, shown here, is a prime example, with features, performance and comfort that rival cars costing tens of thousands more

7. Buick

consumer reports most reliable
General Motors' (GM) Buick was the only Detroit-based car brand to earn a spot in the Top Ten in Consumer Reports reliability rankings. While they aren't quite luxury cars, Buicks offer stylish designs and lots of options at affordable prices. The new Cascada convertible, shown here, was just unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

8. Honda

consumer reports most reliable
Honda (HMC) makes very dependable cars, but it dropped four places from last year in the reliability rankings. Owners complained the most about problems with the "infotainment" systems on Honda's new and redesigned models, according to the magazine.

9. Hyundai

consumer reports most reliable
Kia's Korean sister-brand, Hyundai, makes cars and SUVs tuned a little more toward comfort than sporty performance. This year both brands moved up four places in the reliability rankings.

10. Mini

consumer reports most reliable
BMW's U.K.-based compact car brand barely made it into the top 10, with a reliability that's just a bit above average.
